The new West Lafayette smoking law went into effect on July 1, 2007. This website will help you navigate through the new legislation. Smoking is PROHIBITED in the following areas:
- All enclosed facilities owned by the City of West Lafayette, including city vehicles, whether or not they are occupied by more than one person.
- Elevators
- Restrooms, lobbies, reception areas, hallways and any other common-use areas.
- Buses, taxicabs, and other means of public transit under the authority of the City of West Lafayette, and ticket, boarding, and indoor waiting areas of public transit depots.
- Service lines
- Retail stores
- Restaurants and bars
- Public areas of galleries, libraries, and indoor areas of museums.
- Sports arenas, convention halls, bowling facilities,
- Hospitals, clinics, physical therapy facilities, doctors' offices, and dentists' offices
- Polling places
- Places of employment.
Smoking is NOT PROHIBITED in the following areas:
- Outdoors, except where prohibited by other applicable laws
- Private residences, except when used as a licensed child care, adult day care or health care facility.
- Hotel and motel rooms that are rented to guests and are designated as smoking rooms. However, not more than twenty-five percent (25%) of rooms rented to guests in a hotel or motel may be designated as smoking.
- Retail tobacco stores
- Private clubs
- Tobacco bars
- Outdoor areas of employment
